Although I don't mention it often to clients, in addition to Accounting & Tax services I also provide Financial Planning & Asset Management services for those of you who have investments.  As a registered IAR (Investment Advisor Representative) I also watch the "markets" and give you my insight on what's happening and how it might affect your investments.  I hope you enjoy it!  David

Stay in School, Can We Make The Grade?

We are always telling our kids to stay in school and get an education. Even when things are not going their way, we tell them it will get better.

We may need to study more and work a bit harder and make a study plan, but if we stay in school, we will get smarter.

Until recently I did not think we were going to enter a recession. I still believe this, but after last week's Philly Fed Index, I do think there is a high probability we will have a negative quarter.

Transportation is off by our estimates near 8% and one company we know who services lawns, is rumored to have 145,000 customers cancel their services. This is a very high level. Much of this was due to the anxiety over the standoff in Washington, where one set of nuts want to give everything away, and the other set of nuts have blinders on and don't want to end crazy subsidies and raise taxes above 15% for others.

Whether you like peanuts or walnuts, no wonder nut allergies are on the rise and most nuts are not allowed in school any longer. Ok, so we may not enter an official recession, but this wrangling is going to make the markets test their previous lows. This should last through September and even into October.

For those who have a long-term perspective, I think this is a good time to buy solid dividend paying stocks as well as look at currency diversification.

You can do this by restructuring your portfolio and changing the funds in your investments.

Remember that I offer a Free Portfolio Analysis if you want to take an X-RAY inside your current portfolio and see what's really there PLUS see if your current Asset Allocation matches your current Risk Tolerance (below):

Whether it's with me or someone else always consult with your advisor and make sure you know your time horizon. If you have a longer time horizon, heading into the riskier stocks is a good place to be, but it is going to be a roller coaster for a while.

Roller coasters can make your stomach jump every now and then. Stay in school, know what classes suit you best and don't skip class.

As always you can call our offices if you have any questions about investing, retirement or any other tax & accounting related issues, at 360-659-8502.
