RE:     Montgomery County, Maryland Paid Sick and Safe Leave Law
           and Department of Labor Overtime Rule

We are sending you this memo to inform you that beginning Oct. 1, 2016, employers in Montgomery County will have to provide earned sick and safe leave to employees. For more information go to and search for Fact Sheet The Montgomery County Earned Sick and Safe Leave Law.

Also be aware of the updated overtime rule effective December 1, 2016. The limits were increased from $455/week ($23,600/year) to $913/week ($47,476/year). If your employees do not fall under the exemptions for executive, administrative and professional employee, and they work more than 40 hours per week, you will need to pay overtime at time plus 1/2. Check on the Department of Labor website and search for Fact Sheet: Final Rule to Update the Regulations Defining and Delimiting the Exemption for Executive, Administrative, and Professional Employees.
