Strategy #1: Selling The Business


We begin our list of exit options with the highest value exit, the sale of the business. It's human nature to want to know the most money that you can potentially get for your business. So, let's examine the get me out at the highest priced exiting owner who ranks low on financial preparedness and high on mental preparation for an exit.

You're likely to get to be a get me out yesterday type of business owner who has most of your wealth tied up in your illiquid business. Or you may be simply an entrepreneur who wants the highest value for your investment.

For existing owners were mentally ready to leave but cannot afford a failed business exit, a sale is likely the optimal exit option.  The value that you're going to receive for the sale of your business is simply whatever the market will bear or, quite simply whatever a buyer is willing to pay you.
